Terms of Service
Last updated September 27, 2026
These terms are an agreement between you and Joshua Karasik, an individual who runs Tightcut (“we” and “us” below). They cover the Tightcut website at tightcut.app and the Tightcut iPhone app. By making an account or using Tightcut, you agree to them and to our Privacy Policy.
What Tightcut does
You pick raw clips, and pictures to show on top if you like. Tightcut sends their sound, small stills and small copies of the pictures to be transcribed and looked at by AI, which picks the best take of each line and plans the edit. The cut itself is made on your device: in the iPhone app on an iPhone, or in your browser on a computer. You review and change the edit before you save it. Tightcut changes as we work on it, and features may be added, changed or removed.
Who can use it
You must be 18 or over to use Tightcut.
Your account
You sign in with Google, with Apple, or with an email address and password. Keep your sign-in safe: you are responsible for what happens on your account. Tell us straight away if you think someone else has used it.
Your content
- Your clips, pictures, songs and finished videos (“your content”) are yours. We don't claim any rights in them.
- You give us permission to store, copy and process your content, including sending it to the providers named in our Privacy Policy, only to provide Tightcut to you and to keep it working and secure. This ends when you delete the content or your account.
- You must have the rights to everything you add: the clips, the people and things in them, the pictures, and any song, including the right to use that song in the videos you make and wherever you post them.
- Don't use Tightcut for anything illegal, harmful or infringing, or to harass anyone. Don't try to get around its limits, make accounts to get more free videos, overload it, or copy or take apart the service.
- We don't keep a copy of your videos, so keep your own.
The AI can be wrong
The takes, captions, titles and the rest of each edit are made automatically. They can be wrong: a line you wanted can be cut, a stumble can be kept, a word can be misheard or a picture misread. Watch every edit before you post it. What you post is your responsibility.
Free videos and plans
- Every account starts with 3 free videos.
- Creator: 30 videos a month.
- Studio: 150 videos a month.
- A video counts when you start it. One that fails, or never finishes sending, doesn't. Videos you don't use in a month don't carry over.
- One video can be up to 30 minutes of footage. In the iPhone app, it can be made again as a talking video or a story up to twice without counting again.
- Prices are shown where you buy. We may change plans and prices; a new price applies to you from your next billing period after we've told you about it.
Billing on the website
Plans bought on the website are billed monthly in advance through Stripe, and renew each month until you cancel. Cancel any time from the account menu on the website (your name, top right, then Billing); your plan stays active until the end of the period you've paid for. Payments aren't refunded for part of a period, except where the law requires. Deleting your account ends a website plan straight away.
Subscriptions in the App Store
Subscriptions bought in the iPhone app are sold, billed and renewed by Apple, to your Apple Account, under Apple's terms. They renew automatically unless you turn off renewal at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Manage or cancel them in iPhone Settings: tap your name, then Subscriptions. Refunds are handled by Apple under its own policies; we can't give them. Deleting your Tightcut account doesn't cancel an App Store subscription, so cancel it in Settings first.
The iPhone app and Apple
If you got Tightcut from the App Store, these terms also apply:
- These terms are between you and us only, not Apple. We, not Apple, are solely responsible for the app and its content.
- You may use the app on Apple-branded products you own or control, as the Usage Rules in the App Store Terms of Service allow, including through Family Sharing or volume purchasing where those apply.
- We alone are responsible for maintaining and supporting the app. Apple has no obligation at all to provide maintenance or support for it.
- If the app fails to meet any warranty that applies to it, you may tell Apple, and Apple will refund the price you paid for the app, if any. To the fullest extent the law allows, Apple has no other warranty obligation for the app. Any other claims, losses, liabilities, damages, costs or expenses from a failure to meet a warranty are ours to deal with, as far as these terms don't exclude them.
- We, not Apple, are responsible for dealing with any claims by you or anyone else about the app or your having or using it, including product liability claims, claims that it fails to meet a legal or regulatory requirement, and claims under consumer protection, privacy or similar laws.
- If anyone claims that the app, or your having or using it, infringes their intellectual property rights, we, not Apple, are solely responsible for investigating, defending, settling and discharging the claim.
- You confirm that you aren't in a country subject to a U.S. Government embargo or designated by the U.S. Government as a “terrorist supporting” country, and that you aren't on any U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
- You must follow the terms of any third party that apply when you use the app, such as your mobile data provider's.
- Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms. Once you accept them, Apple has the right, and is taken to have accepted the right, to enforce them against you as a third-party beneficiary.
- Questions, complaints or claims about the app go to Joshua Karasik at joshuakarasik@gmail.com.
Ending
You can stop using Tightcut at any time, and delete your account on the app's Account screen or from the account menu on the website. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms or puts the service or other people at risk. We may also stop offering Tightcut; if we do, we'll tell you in advance where we can, and stop charging for website plans.
No warranties
To the fullest extent the law allows, Tightcut is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including that it will be uninterrupted, free of errors, fit for a particular purpose or right for you. Keep your own copies of your videos and anything else that matters to you.
Limit of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, we aren't liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive losses, or for lost profits, income, data or footage, however they arise. Our total liability for all claims about Tightcut is limited to the greater of what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim and 50 US dollars.
Nothing in these terms limits a liability that can't be limited by law, or takes away rights you have as a consumer under the law where you live.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, United States, without regard to its rules on conflicts of laws. Disputes go to the courts there, unless the law where you live lets you bring them where you live.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms, and the date at the top changes when we do. Before a significant change takes effect, we'll tell you by email or in the app. Using Tightcut after that means you accept the new terms; if you don't, stop using it and delete your account.
